‘after earth’

We often look upon our planet as fragile and at risk, but forget natures power and agency. In an article from The Nature Conservancy written by Giulio Boccaletti, he writes, ‘Nature acts on the planet on a scale that dwarfs most human processes.’ Boccaletti urges us to turn the camera around, understand that we rely on systems and cycles that nature provides and be knowledgeable of the fact the earth has supported life for over 3.5 billion years. With that being said, ‘After Earth’ is an installation created to remind humans of the power of nature, from building ecosystems in unthinkable locations, to restoring itself from manmade destruction and highlight ‘our utter dependence’ on it. It’s name suggesting that it has survived and thrives before us and has the ability to be here long after.
